For a quick hunger fix or a great party appetizer, you can always count on fettunta, which translates to as “oiled slice”, referring simply to an oiled slice of bread. I always have oil, garlic, and salt in my cupboard, and most of the time I can find some old bread. Grill the bread then rub it with crushed garlic cloves and brush with extra-virgin olive oil. The recipe works best with country-type bread, but any bread will do. If you want, you can elaborate on this dish by adding chopped tomatoes (with some onion and basil even) and presto! You now have bruschetta as well.
