Cooking Essentials

Here are some basic cooking essentials that every kitchen should have. Everyone should always have a large stockpot for making soups. Soups made in a large quantity are great because they can be frozen then can be easily made into a meal during the week when time is precious. Heavy saucepans or Dutch ovens are great for roasts and braises, and I love a cast iron skillet for high temperature searing and delicious stovetop roasting, and it will last you a lifetime. For pasta lovers a 14 inch diameter skillet is a must so you can toss the pasta with the sauce just before serving. It's also a perfect pan for quick cooking meats and skillet braised vegetables Italian style.
